Newbiggin Chapel: Then and Now

BY

You seem to sleep, yet slumber not, your task not yet completed
Though ‘veiled’ by altered outward guise, three things remain forever.

Imbued within these very walls, these stones, these sure foundations

Constructed by believers’ hands

Remains God’s proclamation

Faith, hope and love are present here, the breath of God still breathes here

Past generations gathered here, in worship, prayer and praise

With grateful hearts, placed trust in God – sure hope of help as needed

On bended knee, they bowed their heads, at this communion rail

In fervent prayer, before the Lord, they sorrowed, wept and pleaded.

The God who speaks in silence comes, and grace, it still abounds here

He whispers in this sacred place, creation calms the senses

When all is still…. I feel His breath… His beauty ever glorious

I too must trust, and labour on, my task not yet completed

I bow my head and bend the knee, as above who’ve gone before me

Faith, hope and love are present here, the breath of God still breathes here

Imbued within these very walls, these stones, these sure foundations

Constructed by believers’ hands

Remains God’s proclamation
